Waiting Is Hard To Do

April 16, 2023

Many months of research, planning, and learning have gone into our inaugural year of McGruder HomeGrown, LLC.  It recently dawned on me that the feeling I have anticipating our opening day is kinda like a kid waiting for Christmas!  The gifts God has given us are in the forms of bright green strawberry plants with white blossoms filling the rows.   We have tenderly cared for these plants all winter making sure they had sufficient protection from the harsh bitter cold month of December as well as the late March freezes that we had to contend with.  In the spring, proper fertilizing and watering began.  It was amazing how quickly the small plants flourised with this care.  The bloosoms are now like packages waiting to be unwrapped.

Walking though the berry patch every day, we have a feeling of excitement and hope.  And to be honest, it's a bit scary too.  The excitement comes from what lies ahead for the future and sustainability of our farm.  The excitement is built on seeing the hours of care given to the plants and seeing them thrive.  The excitment also came with the taste of the very first strawberry we picked.  One word - MOUTHWATERING!!!  We want to share this with others.  We want our farm to be a place where people come and truly get an on-farm experience.  Reaping the harvest is exciting.  However, every step of the process will bring us to that day.  As adults, we know that we don't just wake up and enjoy Christmas morning with our families.  It takes planning and work.  One of my favorite things about Christmas is when I have an extra special gift that I have planned and picked out for a family member.  This patch is kinda like that for our community.

Why do I say it's a bit scary?  Because we strive to do our best in all areas.  We want to produce and exceptional product as well as an experience.  We want to meet the expectations of every customer.  But, there is a learning curve here and we are having to find our way in this venture.  So, we ask that you be patient while we learn.  We are learning not only about produce production, but technology as well.  We are keeping you updated on Facebook, starting this webpage, as well as setting up methods of payment for credit card use to make things easier for you.  One thing I have learned, scary is not always a bad thing.  Scary means we are outside of our comfort zone.  But scary also means growth.  If we stay in one place and never do anything different in life, we become stagnet.  So, outside of our comfort zone we are stepping and praying for a great deal of growth for our farm as well as ourselves.

Come along on our journey.  Give us some grace if things aren't perfect.  Understand that this "strawberry patch" is also our home.  Give us recommendations if you love what you see, taste, and experience. We look forward to sharing our love of farming and becoming a part of new family tranditions for your and your family!

Many Blessings!
