McGruder HomeGrown, LLC is a family farm that is many generations in the making. Curt grew up in Northwest Arkansas where he learned the management of cattle, hay, and hogs at a very young age. As an adult working an off-farm job for 30 years, his love of farming pulled him into "early retirement" and shifted his priorities. Having two daughters who where in college, he found himself often giving them advice. He instructed them that they should "determine what you love to do, then figure out a way to make money at it." After all of this preaching, he soon realized he was a hypocrite and he was not loving his salary job. So, he took a leap of faith decided to practice what he preached to his daughters. In the spring of 2022, he became his own boss. His love of working the soil and watching things grow has turned into a family affair and continues to be a wonderful way to raise our family.
Though cattle and hay production have been an every summer event for over three decades, the shift to produce has been rewarding. As we see the communitie's excitement build for the locally grown produce, it inspires this family to "bring to the table" delicious fruit, berries, and summer produce they can be proud to put their family name on. Our goal is to have our neighbors understand that food doesn't come from a store. Food comes from hard working farmers willing to "gamble" on weather, diseases, and other critters that may want to nibble our products in order to make a living ourselves. This has truly become a labor of love.
